Shopping For All Gets Interesting

Food should be as interesting as can be. Shopping for all gets interesting as the cash register has the final say.

In a way a definite daily adventure. Welcome the different cooks, who by chance, have many skills and years of experience.

The house has three rooms.  Plus a bungalow. There is currently

  • One room waiting for the oldest tenant.  She's in Melbourne staying with relatives while she travels gardening.
  • The other now has full time work in Melbourne. He comes back every few weeks to catch up on relatives and friends.
  • The other room has me in it.
  • The bungalow is the office for an accountant.
The house is actually someone else's who cannot live here as they are nearly half way across the country. That is a pretty long way away in Australia.

Okay so the owner is not eating here. There are bills to pay Food and a kitchen.  But who has the time to do the shopping?  The cooking tends to be left to the females and the BBQ's to the males not here.

To be conscious of the financial climate the food money is pooled. Effectively comes out of the rent / towards the rent everyone should be able to afford to put forward.

There was a comment made "You gota get out of the boat before you can walk on water."

Feeding people and making food that is worth waiting for is always an experiment here. Recipes change with what is in the fridge, the storage and the garden. Even in the actual kitchen cupboards, or what was on special at the shops we all go to.

Alternatively the local Pizza Place or Fish and Chip shops near by.  There you know what ingredient's go into the respective food ordered over the counter.

Cooking Up The SOG Out Of Stale Bread

SOG.  It was made by mum in the 1960's. SOG is also

  • known as Bread Pudding.
  • The best way to use really stale bread.
    • The harder the bread the better.
      • By that time the yeast has probably died.
  • Lasts for ages which is terrific as here is the basic recipe.
In a roasting dish that has the lid [or tin foil the roasting dish several times with a heavy tin foil.]

INGREDIANTS
add 10 to 12 eggs, and milk [about 1.5 liters of milk] and whisk.
Now put in Nutmeg and Ginger.  a 1/2 cup in total is what is used in this house.
Cut the bread [ 2 long loaves will do cut up or cubed.]

Now when your cooking up the sog in the bottom on the pan sprinkle either mixed fruit like raisons, sultanas, apricot, orange peel, nuts.  What every you have on hand.

Add the cut bread pieces.  Pour over the egg mixture.

Cook long and low. The smell permeates the building you happen to be in.

Here the smell floats right down to the bus stops.  There is two bus stops - one on each side of the road.

The surprising thing is that this Sog - bread pudding tastes really terrific by itself. Especially with a little bit of cream.  Even Yoghurt, and with friends.

The hardest thing is the top of the Sog.  It gets really crunchy. Kinda sets the setting to have a reason for the ice cream!

Which is funny as who would eat ice cream with bread!  Yeah.  Old State bread sog!

Susan Off on Adventure sure has some strange life story's to be entertained with.  To bring a smile into your heart.

Butterflies Are Amazing

Before you get lost in a garden, a park, or just a spring field know that butterflies are amazing.  Some people even make mandellas or metal reflective twirly things.

Butterflies Are Amazing
The vegetable garden here is based on a small piece of dirt. Literally around the edge of the side and front area.

Yet with the ten-foot fences, those little white butterflies found a way in.

Rough time in the garden all of a sudden. Great fun when watering the garden though they tend to weave in and around the water cascading around them.

One of the things with the family moving on is the garden with at least a hundred tomatoes nearly ready to pick and winter coming on.

Something that the dehydrator has now taken to being active again.  Parsley is the next thing to be dehydrated.

Easier to travel with than frozen foods.  So it's now starting time to get things done.  Slowly packaging nuts, berries and vegetables are like just beginning to gain the organize for the trip to actually begin.

Tomorrow is another day with a lot more tomatoes ready to be stored.

YES.  Loving the flexibility.

The Koalas of Churchill, Victoria Are Moving Away

Koalas just enjoying their hello time

There is a time, and a place, those people, and animals need to return to their homes.

The Koala's from the Gippsland area that were taken to Tasmania generations ago, were and are the supposed saviors in the forms of DNA rescuers. They have now been interbred with Koalas from other areas.  These and their children's children are now surviving.

There are fewer Koala's walking through the Churchill township.  The trees have gradually been disappearing from sites around the township.  The bulldozers come in quietly.  Taking out the trees from inside.  Then around the periphery mowers come through making sure that any new trees will not grow.
